Web Design Guides and Articles you may be interested in?

If you are new to websites I have written a few guides and articles which you may find useful, or if you prefer just give me a call:

  • There is a "Beginners Guide to Websites" for the complete novice. It briefly covers many of the common issues you need to know about when you are considering setting up a website.
  • Content is what most websites are really all about - in most cases they are not about graphics, flash animations or other toys. Content is what people want and what makes search engines tick. My "Website Content is Everything" article helps you focus on creating good quality content.
  • There are a lot of websites out there and sadly the vast majority are not well designed. I have written an article covering "good website design" and the issues you should consider when creating your effective website.
  • I aim to be flexible to meet your website needs. However if you want to know how I approach typical website design projects take a look at "My Approach to Web Design".
  • I am a little unusual amongst website designers in that I consider Search Engine Optimisation as a priority requirement in web site design for most websites. I have written a number of articles on Search Engine Optimisation to help you understand how to create a search engine friendly website including this "Beginners Guide to Search Engine Optimisation (SEO)".
  • Disability Accessibility is an issue that is often ignored by web designers and website owners. It is illegal for your website to discriminate against disabled people. If you have a website that is illegal, currently it is unlikely to result in legal action being brought against you as this is not happening in the industry as yet. However it is likely to be losing you custom which you are just unaware of. I am happy to advise on Accessible Web Design - for most websites it is sufficient to adhere to the basic principles of Accessible Web Site Design rather than go through formal Accessibility Testing unless that is what you prefer. You can read more about website disability accessibility issues if you want to know more.
  • I have been using Content Management Systems (CMS) as part of websites since I started. I have mixed experiences with them. They can be an important feature of websites or a great dissapointment. Have a look at my article on "Content Management Systems" if you think one might be right for your website.
  • E-commerce - Want to know the basics of setting up an online shop? I have written a brief Beginners Guide to Ecommerce.

If you need help or advice on website design please give me a ring - I am happy to discuss any web design issues you may have without any obligation. If I can help I will.
