I have been working designing websites since 1999. Prior to that I worked in computing in large financial organisations for nearly 20 years.

I started Epsilis in 1999. We were based in Letchworth initially, soon moved to managed offices in Stevenage, where we stayed for 5 years operating with between 5 and 7 staff. We working on web sites of all sizes and focussed heavily on content management systems and bespoke online applications.

Supporting the local community is important to me and we proudly sponsor Letchworth Garden City Eagles Youth Football Club by maintaining their website which we have done now for over 5 years.

In 2005 I decided that it was time for a change in direction so that I could do more of the work that I enjoyed - designing straight-forward small websites and search engine optimisation.

So I now operate from a home office set up and work with Mark Selley a young web designer. I have a number of free-lance web designers I use for larger web projects.

My aim is to establish a long-term relationship with each of our customers. I hope you will always be satisfied with our work and want to continue to work with us in the future.

Website design for charities, Small Companies and Individuals

Most of our business is associated with small companies and charities, start up businesses and individuals.

We are happy to work with people who want their first web site designed or with old web hands who are looking for a refresh or upgrade to their old website.

Web site design not graphic design

Our focus is the web, we do not normally deal in print as this is not our area of expertise.

The web is a very different medium to print and it needs to be treated as such. I try to ensure we understand the "nuts and bolts" of what makes a good website and what makes a bad website.

Search Engine Optimisation:

Website design and search engine optimisation are closely linked - although not in many web designers eyes - its historical and the industry still hasn't sorted this out properly.

I know that (if I didn't know better, of course) if I was getting a web site designed for me by a professional I would have expected it to automatically be search engine friendly. So we aim to treat search engine optimisation as an important part of web site design unless told otherwise by you the client.

I believe very strongly that we should only use valid search engine optimisation techniques - using the deceptive techniques is cheating the search engines, the web site owners and the search engine users.

Website design to standards:

I keenly follow the latest standards and trends associated with website design and internet technologies.

I have always advocated that business websites we design should be clear, clean and functional focusing on content rather than graphic design.

I always advise our clients to focus on the purpose and content of their website rather than on than just on the graphic presentation. I still recognise that the presentation is important but it is not normally the highest consideration.

Disability Accessibility:

Disability discrimination is now a real issue and I have been recommending our clients adopt the accepted web accessibility guidelines since 2002. Web accessibility seems to be more important to some customers than to others - for some like local authorities and charities this is a key requirement.
